Medical Properties of Hemp
|
|||||
The written medical history of hemp seed dates back to 3700 BC. For centuries it was known as one of the “Superior Elixirs of Immortality”, however, only in very recent years has it been discovered by western medicine. Due to its association with the marijuana plant in North America there is much misconception about industrial hemp and it's medical properties.
Industrial hemp seed is THC free — 0.00%.
Hemp seed contains a very rare protein known as globule edestins that is similar to globulin found in human blood plasma.
35% of hemp seed is made from essential fatty acids. These essential fatty acids (EFA's) consist of approximately 60% linoleic acid (Omega 6), and 20% linolenic acid (Omega 3). These fats are referred to as “essential” because they are necessary for human life and are not produced by the body -- they must be found in your diet. The ideal EFA ratio for human health is 3 or 4:1 omega-6 over omega-3. In hemp seed the proportions of Omega 6 and Omega 3 are perfectly balanced for the human body unlike flax seed oil, which has the opposite balance of 1:4 omega-6 over omega-3. Flax seed, and most other sources of EFA's, when eaten in quantity everyday, can create dangerous EFA imbalances. Hempseed can be used continuously without developing a deficiency or dangerous imbalance. Hemp seed also contains 31% complete and highly digestible protein, 1/3 as edestin (unique to hemp) protein and 2/3 as albumin (similar to egg white) protein.
Hemp seed has a perfect ratio of EFA's and should be eaten in quantity every day.
The amino acid profile for hemp seed is far more optimal for human health than soybean, meat, fish, cows milk or even human milk.
