Hemp Is Not Marijuana
Industrial hemp is NOT Marijuana!
The debate surrounding the relationship between hemp and marijuana has been distorted by corporate lobby groups, media, marijuana activists and government agendas.
Since the beginning of recorded human history hemp has been one of the world's most widely used natural resources.
Industrial hemp is made from a plant called Cannabis Sativa; Marijuana is made from Cannabis Rasta, Cannabis Indica or Cannabis Ruderalis. Hulled Cannabis Sativa seeds do not contain THC resin and cannot get you stoned or high.
Hemp and marijuana are distant cousins but because they have similar physical properties, powerful corporate influences were able to launch a successful fear campaign, in which the two cousins were forever linked. In 1936 the U.S government introduced the Marijuana Tax Act which made it impossible for hemp farmers to make a living.
In 1996, after 60 years, the Canadian government was the first to lift the ban on industrial hemp. Only in the last couple of years have Canadian farmers been permitted to grow hemp in quantity large enough to produce an economical food source. Today the sale and consumption of hemp seed is now fully endorsed by both Health Canada and the USDA.
A complete history of hemp is found on this website and we encourage everyone to take the time to read it.
Here is a detailed list of some of the most pervasive and misleading myths regarding industrial hemp.
Myth:
Smoking industrial hemp gets a person high.
Fact:
The THC levels in industrial hemp are so low that no one could actually get high from smoking or eating it.
Myth:
Hemp foods contain THC and can be dangerous.
Fact:
Hemp foods contain 0.00 THC and are extremely safe.
Myth:
Even though THC levels are low in hemp, the THC can be extracted and concentrated to produce a powerful drug.
Fact:
Extracting THC from industrial hemp would be extremely expensive, hazardous, and time-consuming. It is absurd to believe that any criminal organization in the world would attempt to do this.
Myth:
Hemp fields would be used to hide marijuana plants.
Fact:
Hemp is grown quite differently from marijuana, it looks very different and it is harvested at a different time. Furthermore, it is practically impossible to prevent cross-pollination between hemp plants and marijuana plants when they are growing in close proximity to each other. This cross-pollination destroys the potency of the marijuana plant.
Myth:
Growing industrial hemp is illegal.
Fact:
Industrial hemp was never actually illegal in North America. In fact during World War 2 the US government even subsidized farmers to grow hemp for the war effort. As soon as the war was over industrial hemp was again over-taxed and virtually outlawed.
Myth:
Those who want to legalize hemp are actually seeking a backdoor way to legalize marijuana.
Fact:
Hemp legalization is a very different issue than marijuana legalization. The industrial hemp industry does not support the legalization of Marijuana.
Myth:
Hemp is not economically viable.
Fact:
Hemp has hundreds if not thousands of useful applications.
The market for hemp products is growing rapidly. Virtually over-night it has become the fastest growing sector in the nutrition and personal health/skin care industry.
Try it for yourself and you will quickly understand why.
